What would only have seemed a dreamer's wild fantasy not so long ago will soon become reality thanks to the tireless work of the Grimaldi Group. As part of a broad strategy aimed at reducing the environmental impact of its activities, the Neapolitan company has set itself the ambitious goal of turning its vessels into "vacuum cleaners of the sea", capable of collecting microplastic particles and removing them from the water filtered while sailing. The Group's Energy Saving Department has taken up this great technological challenge together with the prestigious Department of Chemical, Material and Industrial Production Engineering (DICMAPI) at the Federico Ⅱ University of Naples. DICMAPI has more than thirty years' experience in the analysis and design of processes and plants for the treatment of pollutant emissions from industrial plants, both in the atmosphere and in water. Furthermore, for over twelve years it has dealt specifically with systems for the treatment of exhaust gases and washing water of marine diesel engines.
