摘要

After the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster in 2011, Japan ended its nuclear power programme and decommissioned its nuclear power plants for the time being. The country has made up for the resulting energy shortfall in the meantime mainly by burning fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas and coal. One such plant, the Takehara thermal power station in the Hiroshima prefecture in the south of the country, is one of the most important suppliers of energy. It can generate 1,300 MW. Coal-fired power stations may not have a good environmental balance sheet, but at least they have waste-gas scrubbers in place.
