Whether you are traveling to a new city for vacation or business, or you want to know your travel options in your current city, chances are you have accessed a variety of transportation resources from multiple providers to look up schedules and availability. What if you could access all of your available travel choices for a trip with one simple search, receiving information specific to the time of day you needed to travel? That's the question Joseph Kopser asked and sought to answer when he moved to Washington, DC, USA three years ago. His answer, the free RideScout app he developed with fellow Army veteran Craig Cummings, is one of the winners of the U.S. Department of Transportation Data Challenge. As of June 2014, RideScout is bringing together 337 different transportation services and growing, enabling people to search for rides and discover more travel options while exploring cities, making alternative choices to driving personal vehicles easier and more convenient. Joseph recently spoke with ITE Journal about the development of RideScout and its innovative use of both public and private data, which is helping provide people with quick access to multimodal transportation choices with the click of a button.
