Orders for a new set of Russian interncontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launchers have been put on hold and may lead to a delay of more than a year in the programme. The cause is deteriorating economic conditions in Russia are putting key manufacturing subcontractors of critical components out of business. The missile system concerned is the Yars RS-24 (NATO designation SS-29), which is a variant of the Topol-M/RT-2PM2 featuring a multiple independently targ-etable re-entry vehicle (MIRV) that now equips three regiments of Russia's Strategic Rocket Forces.
