The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has completed around 15 km of a new 'cliff' barrier on its border with Lebanon to prevent Hizbul-lah from launching cross-border infiltrations. Major Eliyahu Gabai, an engineering officer in the 300th Territorial Brigade, which is responsible for a stretch of the 120 km border, told IHS Jane's that work on the barrier began a year ago and that much of it is focused on creating a steep precipice. "The aim is to create a cliff that will definitely prevent vehicle movement and significantly limit foot movement," he said. "This also involves turning some areas into lookouts."
