The unveiling of the Burkan-2 ballistic missile on 6 February is likely to heighten suspicions that Iran is helping Yemen's rebel forces to develop their ballistic missile capabilities. The rebels are an alliance of the pro-Iranian Ansar Allah (Houthi) group and military personnel loyal to former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh. The latter includes at least some members of Yemen's ballistic missile force, which was equipped with Soviet R-17 (SS-1C 'Scud-B') and North Korean 'Scud'-type missiles at the start of the Saudi-led military intervention in March 2015.
