The UK Royal Navy (RN) has retired the MBDA Sea Skua anti-ship missile from service coincident with the out-of-service date (OSD) of the Lynx HMA8 helicopter. Withdrawal of the Sea Skua leaves the RN without an air-to-surface guided weapon until the introduction of the MBDA Sea Venom/Anti-Navire Lger (ANL) anti-ship missile and Thales Martlet laser beam-riding light-weight precision-guided missile on the Wildcat HMA2 helicopter in 2020. Sea Venom/ANL is being developed to meet the Future Anti-Surface Weapon (Heavy) (FASGW[H]) requirement, while Martlet will deliver against the Future Anti-Surface Weapon (Light) (FASGW[L]) requirement.
