Poland would be a test case for PESCO. Too populous to be ignored but with a defence industry far behind those of France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, the country seems to have a contradictory stance toward the raison d'tre of PESCO. On one side, Warsaw wants - against economic reality - to nurture full-spectrum defence capabilities. On the other, it says it is not categorically opposed to PESCO's goal of harmonised multination procurement and common military requirements, although these would expose the country's highly coddled defence sector to open competition.
