The US Department of State has approved the sale of a package of military equipment to Taiwan worth about USD1.4 billion. The proposed deals represent the first weapon sales to Taiwan under the administration of Donald Trump and are likely to anger China, which regards Taiwan as part of its territory. Statements published by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on 29 June said the deals, which will progress as Foreign Military Sales, will feature a range of products and services. Speaking to Jane's, a US government official added that the package primarily represents upgrades to existing capabilities "aimed at converting current legacy systems from analogue to digital".
