A top US Air Force (USAF) officer says he is concerned about his lack of government authority to counter small unmanned aerial systems (UASs) that interfere with base operations. Air Combat Command (ACC) chief General James Holmes said on 11 July that two incidents took place earlier in July. One UAS, he said, flew over the top of the 'gate shack' and over the flight line before eventually leaving the base. Gen Holmes said the other incident involved a near miss with a Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor air superiority fighter.
