The European Defence Agency (EDA), the defence co-operation arm of the European Union (EU), will be moving ahead with its pilot project for research and development investment in May as part of a broader push to accelerate innovation across the union, according to the agency's chief executive, Jorge Domecq. Domecq, speaking with IHS Jane's on 29 April while visiting Washington, DC, described the EUR1.4 million (USD1.6 million) pilot programme under way with requests for proposals due this month. The programme is intended to be a starting point for a much larger research and development (R&D) push by the EU in light of increasing security concerns across the continent.
