The House and Senate versions of the fiscal year 2017 (FY 2017) National Defense Authorization Act differ significantly, with the lower chamber's version prompting a White House veto threat. On 13 May the Senate Armed Services Committee announced that its mark-up of the policy bill would authorise funding at the White House's requested level. If adopted, it would include USD602 billion of discretionary national defence spending: USD543 billion for the Department of Defense (DoD) base budget and Department of Energy nuclear functions, along with USD59 billion for supplemental Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) funding.
