Plans to downsize the UK's Raytheon Sentinel R.I surveillance platforms from five to four aircraft this September should be reversed, according to the commander of the Royal Air Force's (RAF's) ISTAR Force. Speaking on 12 July at the Farnborough International Air-show 2016, Air Commodore Dean Andrew said that he was lobbying hard within the RAF for the proposed drawdown of the Sentinel fleet to be put on hold. He described the Sentinel as "the prime minister's go-to aircraft" in time of crisis and said the drawdown would affect the ability of the Sentinel force to collect intelligence in operational theatres.
