South Korea is to bring forward the deployment of its 'three pillars' of national defence by two to three years to protect the nation from threats posed by North Korea, officials of the Ministry of National Defense (MND) said in a press briefing in Seoul on 18 October. The three-pronged strategy was originally scheduled to be in place by the mid-2020s, but North Korea's rapid advances in nuclear and missile technology mean that timeline needs to be revised, Yonhap news agency quoted the officials as saying.
