Japan's biggest defence contractors, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI), have posted declines in net sales and operating income during the first half of fiscal year 2016, the corporations have announced in separate statements. MHI said on 31 October that its net sales in the six months to the end of September declined year-on-year by 7% to JPYl,750.5 billion (USD16.7 billion) and that its operating income fell by nearly 67% to JPY38.4 billion. KHI said on 28 October that its six-month sales edged down 2% to JPY697.3 billion, while operating income tumbled by nearly 80% to JPY8.5 billion.
