House and Senate conferees have reached an agreement on a defence policy bill that, among other things, re-organises the Pentagon's acquisition office, elevates US Cyber Command (CYBER-COM) to be its own combatant command, and seeks to raise service end strength numbers. The fiscal year 2017 (FY 2017) defence authorisation bill, submitted on 30 November, contains a variety of new policies but, in an effort to get the bill passed before the new year, eschews most of the controversial measures that had stalled the legislation until now.
