Norway is planning to buy five P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) from Boeing, the country's defence minister has announced. Ine Eriksen Soreide said that the "introduction of Poseidon aircraft is crucial for Norway to maintain a leading position and expertise in strategic conditions in northern areas". The new aircraft, expected to be delivered between 2021 and 2022, will replace Norway's existing Lockheed Martin P-3 Orion MPAs and Dassault Falcon 20 surveillance aircraft. Soreide added that the P-8 would "continue and improve" Norway's current MPA capabilities.
