South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said on 1 December that it aims to start design work on the next-generation Korean Fighter Experimental (KFX) aircraft by next year. The military procurement agency said in a statement that it will hold a 'system functional review' later this month and if this assessment shows the KFX programme is on schedule preliminary design of the aircraft will start in 2017. This design work will be undertaken by lead contractor Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) in collaboration with DAPA's Agency for Defense Development (ADD). DAPA said its KFX advisory committee - headed by DAPA minister Chang Myoung-jin - had met earlier to discuss the status of the KFX programme.
