摘要

Pakistan's parliament on 6 January passed a key amendment to the country's constitution, allowing the establishment of army courts for the next two years for trial of terrorism suspects. The decision followed the 16 December attack by Taliban militants on an army-run school in Peshawar that left 150 people dead, mostly school children between the ages of 13 and 15. After the Peshawar attack, local media reported that Pakistan Army chief General Raheel Sharif had pressed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to immediately establish army courts as a way to allow the quick prosecution of terrorism suspects.
