The Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) is to develop a new defence plan for 2016-2020 and get it signed off by President Vladimir Putin by December 2015, according to remarks made by Russian defence minister Sergei Shoigu on 19 December. The implementation of the State Armament Program (Russian acronym GPV) for development in the 2016-2025 timeframe is also scheduled for this year. Its cost will be reduced from RUB55 trillion (USD899 billion) to RUB30 trillion as a result of rationalising equipment and increasing compatibility.
