摘要

Tuzla-based shipbuilder SEDEF Gemi Insaati has been contracted by the Turkish Ministry of Defence's Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) to build the country's amphibious landing platform dock (LPD) vessel for the Turkish Naval Forces. The deal was signed at the IDEF exhibition in Istanbul on 7 May. Developed in partnership with Navantia and based on the Spanish shipbuilder's Juan Carlos-class design, the LPD will be built at SEDEF's shipyard in Tuzla, southern Istanbul. Under the terms of the contract, the delivery is expected within six years of contract signing, although this could change should the Turkish Navy request additional capabilities, Mujdat Uludag, the SSM's head of naval projects, told IHS Jane's. All going to plan, the first steel will be cut in eight months' time, with the LPD's launch expected to take place in 2018, he added.
