Textron Systems has confirmed to IHS Jane's that it will offer its Aerosonde 4.7 system for the US Special Operations Command's (SOCOM's) Mid-Endurance Unmanned Aircraft System Ⅲ (MEUAS Ⅲ) requirement. Speaking to IHS Jane's at AUVSI 201S in Atlanta, Dave Phillips, Textron Systems' vice-president of small- and medium-endurance UASs, said he is confident that the Aerosonde is already demonstrating the capabilities outlined by SOCOM and that it meets the flight performance requirements. It also has the necessary size, weight and power (SWaP) capacities for subsystems, Phillips said. The programme will see two contracts awarded to provide two tiers of capabilities: line of sight (LOS) and beyond LOS (BLOS). Along with Insitu's ScanEagle system, the Aerosonde 4.7 is an incumbent in the MEUAS II programme, and Textron Systems is pitching its platform at the LOS requirement.
