The long-range Soumar cruise missile that Iran unveiled in March was tested on a range 40 km east-south-east from the city of Qom, IHS Jane's analysis of Iranian television footage and satellite imagery shows. The Soumar appears to be a copy of the Soviet Kh-55 missile, six of which Iran obtained from Ukraine in 2001. When the Soumar was unveiled Iranian television broadcast footage of at least two different missiles being launched from several different angles. These missiles were launched from a pad with a shelter and surrounded on three sides by a revetment. There was a distinctive pile of earth next to the pad in the footage.
