摘要

The US Army's Fort Knox has become the first US military post to become energy independent by cutting its ties to the local utility company. The facility is now generating its own electrical power, which will not only save the army money but also provide energy security for the base. In response to a January 2009 ice storm that led to Fort Knox losing all of its power for nearly a week, the base began a three-year effort to no longer rely on an external power source, R J Dyrdek, energy manager for Fort Knox, told IHS Jane's on 11 May.
