Portugal has approved the purchase of two additional Viana do Castelo-class offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) from the West Sea shipyard in Viana do Castelo. Contractual negotiations will be carried out with the Ministry of National Defence procurement directorate (DGRDN) for a contract worth about EUR77 million (USD85 million) that also includes associated sea trials and testing activity. Approval for the DGRDN to press on with the programme was granted by the Portuguese Council of Ministers on 28 May.
