The United States does not plan to alter its European ballistic missile defence (BMD) scheme, meant to address Iranian missile threats, following a 14 July agreement to curb Tehran's nuclear efforts. The much-anticipated deal between Iran and six world powers places strict limits on Iranian nuclear activities for 10 years while incrementally lifting stringent international sanctions. Most controversially, the agreement would lift an international arms embargo against Iran in five years and then ease international restrictions (although not Washington's own restrictions) on ballistic missile technology for Iran in eight years.
