The Thai government has postponed its plan to purchase three S26T submarines from China, Defence Minister Prawit Wong-suwan announced on 15 July. The decision follows a high level of criticism about the procurement since it was announced in early July, with Thai analysts questioning the rationale behind the acquisition as well as the quality of the submarines that the government intends to purchase. Government sources confirmed the postponement to IHS Jane's but stressed that the delay is temporary while the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) "re-evaluates" the intended operations of the submarines, the procurement of which has been allocated THB36 billion (USD1 billion).
