The commander of the US Pacific Fleet has delivered a thinly veiled warning to China against interfering with the freedom of navigation and overflight in the Asia-Pacific region. Referring to what he described as a rules-based system that had facilitated Asia's unprecedented growth in prosperity, Admiral Scott Swift told a Sea Power conference in Sydney on 6 October that this system applied to all types of vessels and aircraft -military and civilian - from all nations.
