The commissioner of the Japanese Ministry of Defense's (MoD's) newly established Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA) has outlined a vision to develop local industrial capability through collaboration and international sales. Hideaki Watanabe told Japan's Nikkei business newspaper on 9 October that a key strategy of ATLA will be to leverage Japanese core capabilities in securing partnerships and spurring further industrial development. "Japan's strengths lie in sensors, composite materials, robotics technology, and other such fields," Watanabe said. "We will make use of those technologies [in development]."
