General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) is developing an 'expeditionary' version of the MQ-1C Gray Eagle that can be folded up for transportation to forward locations, a company official told an audience at the Association of the United States Army's Aviation Symposium on 14 January. Since the US military has shifted its strategic focus to the Asia-Pacific region, the army and other military services have been looking at how they can field expeditionary forces. GA-ASI said the folding Gray Eagle would be able to fit inside a purpose-built cradle and roll on and off strategic airlifters in the same way other army aircraft do.
