Lockheed Martin is gearing up to support an expected wave of F-35 procurement programmes across the Asia Pacific as countries in the region respond to growing strategic threats and seek potential interoperability with the United States. Orlando Carvalho, president of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, told IHS Jane's at the Singapore Airshow on 13 February that the F-35 development programme is "starting to get into the end game" with more than 50% of its scheduled 8,000 flight-tests completed. The F-35 programme will continue in 2014, with Japan and Australia already committed to a purchase, South Korea expected to order the aircraft soon, and Singapore continuing its evaluation of the aircraft with a view to an acquisition.
