Embraer expects to see the first flight of its KC-390 medium transport aircraft by late 2014, officials said during a 26 March briefing at FIDAE 2014. The programme is currently in a detailed design and certification stage and the first prototype is now being assembled, Paulo Gastao, Embraer's vice-president for KC-390, said. In 2016 the company expects to begin delivering its first production aircraft, with the Brazilian Air Force (Forca Aerea Brasileira - FAB) as the first customer. Embraer and the FAB are negotiating terms and a contract is likely to be firmed up for the first 28 aircraft this year, Gastao added.
