The United States is formulating a plan for more comprehensive training and exercises in Europe, as well as for potentially bolstering its forward units there, under Operation 'Atlantic Resolve', according to the top NATO and US European Command (EUCOM) general. US President Barack Obama in early June announced his European Reassurance Initiative (ERI) - for which he has requested USD1 billion (USD925 million of which would be for the US Department of Defence) for fiscal year 2015 - in order to reassure US allies in Europe that are alarmed by Russia's role in stoking the conflict in Ukraine.
