The Netherlands is to withdraw its Raytheon Patriot surface-to-air (SAM) missile batteries from Turkey in January 2015, citing strain on personnel and a pending technical modification. The Dutch deployed two of its three Patriot fire units from the Defence Ground-Based Air Defence Command (DGBADC), based in Vredepeel, in January 2013 as part of a NATO mission to Incirlik Air Base near Adana. Germany (at Kahraman-maras) and the United States (near Gaziantep) also deployed Patriot SAMs to protect Turkey from potential ballistic missile threats from Syria.
