The Brazilian Ministry of Defence has received offers for a USD110 million project to rebuild the Comandante Ferraz Antarctic Station (EACF), the Brazilian government revealed on 9 October. The Brazilian Navy-run EACF was significantly damaged in a February 2012 fire that destroyed about 70% of its structure and led to the loss of 40% of its research data. The Brazilian Navy established a provisional station using Antarctic Emergency Modules in March 2013. A request for proposals for the new EACF design was launched in 2013 and a design was selected in July this year.
