Southeast Asia is one of the world's fastest growing regional defence markets, with military investment increasing by 8% to USD75 billion between 2011 and 2014. Growing economic might has facilitated a rise in defence spending across the region, while strategic threats such as territorial disputes, as well as the need to secure national assets, have acted as a driver. The role of Southeast Asian defence industries in national armament programmes has grown as a result of increasingly ambitious national offset programmes and the region's military industrial sectors now employ about 130,000 people.
