The gulf between the growth, optimism, and confidence in new world defence markets and continuing decline in the Western world has been highlighted by the IHS Jane's World Defence Industry Survey of 2013. Expectations of jobs and budget growth, as well as expressions of confidence, were high in markets beyond Europe and North America, according to the fourth annual survey. More than one in four survey participants in Canada and the United States - representing defence companies from multi-billion dollar organisations to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) - expect to see their payroll cut over the next 12 months. Meanwhile, fully 60% of respondents in the 'rest of the world' expect to see staff levels grow as they enter 2014.
