India's Ministry of Defence (MoD) on 13 September approved procurements worth INR150 billion (USD2.3 billion) that include six additional Lockheed Martin C-130J-30 Hercules military transports, 236 licence-built T-90S Russian main battle tanks (MBTs) and 4,400 7.62 mm light machine guns (LMGs). The Defence Acquisitions Council (DAC) agreed the acquisitions shortly before US Deputy Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter arrived on a two-day visit to New Delhi on 17 September.
