The US Air Force (USAF) needs to do a better job of explaining what its core missions are and it should focus more on the concept of innovation, acting Secretary of the Air Force Eric Fanning told an audience at the annual Air Force Association conference in National Harbor, Maryland. The USAF's story is more complex than that of the other services, Fanning said, because it does a lot of jobs behind the scenes, from operating satellite systems to managing Distributed Common Ground Stations that aggregate data from a variety of sources.
