摘要

The Arab League's observer mission to Syria seemed to be having mixed results as JDW closed for press. Having arrived in country on 26 December to verify that the regime of Bashar al-Assad was complying with the League's peace plan, the advent of the observer mission did at least force Syrian security forces to pull back their heavy armour in Horns: a key centre for the Syrian rebellion that the observer mission visited on 27 December. It will also have allowed the Arab League observers to verify the sheer scale of the opposition to Assad's regime and the fact that those opposing Assad are not "terrorists", as he has claimed.
