Turkish shipbuilder ADIK is preparing to commence sea trials of the first of eight 80 m high-speed landing craft tank (LCT) vessels being built for the Turkish Naval Forces Command. Ordered by the Ministry of Defence's Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) in mid-2009, the new LCTs are designed to perform amphibious operations and troop transfer (with a secondary role of delivering humanitarian aid/disaster relief). ADIK was selected following a competition with three other Turkish shipyards.
