The arms embargoes imposed on Libya by the United Nations (UN) Security Council and the EU will ostensibly hit Italian and Russian defence industries hardest given their extensive existing interests in the country. Under the terms of the UN embargo (part of the broader UN Resolution 1970) passed on 26 February, the export of "arms and related material of all types, including weapons and ammunition" is prohibited. Libya is also forbidden from exporting defence equipment.
