The Hellenic Navy will decommission a Glavkos-class (Type 209/1100) submarine and three Votsis-class (La Combattante MA) last attack craft (FACs) to save costs on personnel and equipment. No exact schedule for the withdraw-als was provided by navy officials.The submarine to be retired is first-of-class HS Glavkos (S 110), the world's first Type 209/1100, which was ordered from German manufacturer Howaldtswerke in 1968 and entered service in 1971. The submarine was modernised at the Hellenic Navy's Salamis Base between 1996 and 1998 under the Neptune I programme.
