An engage on remote scenario will be the next capability to demonstrate for the US Phased Adaptive Approach (PAA) concept for European ballistic missile defence (BMD), Raytheon officials briefing at the Paris Air Show have indicated. "This would consummate the entire intercept based on an external track and radar information largely supplied by our X-band radars," said Ed Miyashiro, vice-president and deputy general manager of Raytheon Missile Systems, speaking at Le Bourget on 20 June. "That is something that the [US] Missile Defence Agency will attempt to do in the near future, expanding the capability of the system even further and having less dependency on ship-based organic tracks in order to consummate the engagements."
