The biggest series of cyber attacks to date involving the infiltration of government and defence contractor networks has been uncovered by McAfee, the mandated standard IT security provider for the US Department of Defense. Seventy two organisations, including the UN, 12 US defence contractors, one UK defence contractor, 14 US government agencies and the Canadian, Indian, South Korean, Taiwanese and Vietnamese governments, have been targeted over the past five years in cyber attacks thought to originate in China. The length of each targeted intrusion ranged from less than month to 28 months, with the UN experiencing network intrusions for 20 months.
