A US Air Force (USAF) C-130 Hercules transport aircraft collided with a US Army RQ-7 Shadow unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over Afghanistan on 15 August. USAF spokesman Captain Jus-tain Brockhoff said the C-130 was forced to land after sustaining light damage during the incident but the aircrew was unharmed. Meanwhile, the RQ-7, an unarmed reconnaissance UAV, was destroyed, according to Tim Owings, the army's deputy project manager for unmanned aerial systems (UASs). Owings told Jane's that typically in this situation the army will make an attempt to recover the remains of the aircraft "within reason".
