Cross-border attacks attributed to the Somalia-based extremist insurgent Shabab movement have killed at least three Kenyans, the Kenyan military confirmed on 7 November, while insisting that the battalions sent in to roust them still had the upper hand in the nearly four-week-old operation.While there has been no explicit confirmation that Shabab has been behind the grenade and improvised explosive device (IED) attacks in Nairobi and in northeastern Kenya, the military is treating them as terrorist events - and using them as further justification for the offensive begun on 16 October.
