The Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare Italiana - AMI) will send three Alenia Aeronautica C-27J Spartan tactical transport aircraft to Afghanistan over the coming months to assist in special operation missions, a senior military source said on 12 October.rnSpeaking under the Chatham House Rule at the NATO Joint Air Power Competence Centre conference near Dusseldorf in northern Germany, the official said that two C-27Js will be deployed by the end of this year to assist the Inter-rnnational Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in special forces missions, with a third specialist aircraft to be sent in March 2011 to undertake counter-improvised explosive device (IED) operations.
