Germany's ruling political parties are set to debate the future structure of the Bundeswehr in November following the publication of a government report that recommended reducing the number of military personnel from 250,000 to 180,000.rnThe structural commission, which was established in late 2009, was chaired by the head of the German Federal Employment Agency, Frank-Juergen Weise, who is a former soldier and reserve colonel. Its findings were published on 26 October.rnIn addition to its recommendation on the size of the military, the commission said that the Bundeswehr should aim to more than double the level of troops it can send abroad: to 15,000. It also called for stronger co-operation between the government and the defence industry.
