US President Barack Obama ended his three-day visit to India on 8 November by confirming that the US will lift long-standing embargoes on the export of dual-use technology and high-tech items.rnThe lifting of the 36-year-old technology embargo by removing Indian firms from the so-called Entity List was described by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as "a manifestation of the growing trust and confidence" between strategic partners.rnThe US imposed the ban after India's first nuclear test in 1974 and reinforced it after the May 1988 multiple atomic tests.
